Pixels Per Unit Calculator
Calculate the remaining value from any two of sprite size, PPU, and Unity World Size.
What is the Pixels Per Unit Calculator?
This tool checks the size in World Space from a sprite's pixel size and Unity's Pixels Per Unit (PPU). It's useful for game developers placing 2D and pixel art assets into Unity.
What is Pixels Per Unit (PPU)?
PPU is how many pixels are assigned to 1 Unit in Unity. At 100 PPU, a 100px sprite is 1 Unit, and 200px is 2 Units. At 32 PPU, 32px is 1 Unit.
How to Use
- Choose one of the three modes for the value you want.
- Enter the sprite size, PPU, and World Size into the fields shown.
- Optionally enter a height to also check a 2D size.
- Press "Calculate" to see the result.
- Copy the result if needed.
Example
128px divided by 32 PPU is 4 Units. 256px divided by 128 PPU is 2 Units, and 256px with 2 Units gives 128 PPU. Handling 256×128px at 64 PPU gives a World Size of 4×2 Units.
Using This in Game Development
Useful for Unity's Sprite Import Settings, unifying pixel art sizes, placing characters and tiles, and sizing 2D physics.
Relation to Pixel Perfect Camera
Pixel Perfect Camera is a mechanism for displaying pixel art sharply on screen. This tool doesn't calculate Pixel Perfect Camera settings — it checks the relationship between a sprite and its World Size.
Notes
PPU doesn't change an image's actual resolution — it affects its display size in Unity. The same image will have a different World Space size if you change the PPU. Unifying PPU can make pixel art easier to manage, but the right value depends on your game design. Consider how PPU and Transform Scale are used together across your whole project.
FAQ
What is Unity's PPU?
The number of pixels assigned to 1 Unit in Unity.
Should a 32×32 image also use PPU 32?
Setting it to 32 gives 1×1 Units, but decide based on your in-game design.
Does changing PPU blur the image?
PPU mainly changes the size in World Space. Blurriness is also affected by filter settings and camera settings.
What's the difference from Transform Scale?
PPU is the sprite's base size, while Transform Scale is the scale applied after placement. Which to use depends on what's easier to manage.
