Unity Speed Calculator

Calculate the time to reach a destination from a Unity move speed and distance.

Unity move speed:

What is the Unity Speed Calculator?

This tool calculates the time to reach a destination from a character's move speed and distance. It's useful for tuning movement speed in Unity and checking stage design.

How to Use

  1. Enter the move speed.
  2. Enter the distance to travel.
  3. Press "Calculate".
  4. Check the travel time and the Unity move speed you entered.

Example

With a move speed of 5 and a distance of 30m, the travel time is 6 seconds. At 120m, it's 24 seconds.

Using This in Game Development

When deciding on a Unity CharacterController or NavMesh move speed, you can estimate how long it takes a player to cross a stage. It's also useful for tuning an enemy's chase speed or the distance to an event trigger.

Notes

This calculates straight-line movement using time = distance ÷ speed. It does not account for acceleration/deceleration, obstacles, curved paths, or animation transition time. Enter a speed greater than 0.

FAQ

What units does this use?

Distance is treated as meters, and speed as meters per second. This works directly if your Unity units are designed to be equivalent to meters.

Can I calculate with a distance of 0?

Yes. With a distance of 0, the travel time is 0 seconds.

Can this be used for a course with slopes or obstacles?

Entering the actual path distance gives a rough estimate, but consider actual pathfinding and speed changes separately.
