What is the Pixel Art Converter?

Upload an image and convert it into retro pixel art, entirely in your browser. Choose the output size and color count to get the look you want.

How to Use

  1. Drag and drop the image you want to convert, or click to select one.
  2. Choose an output size (16px to 128px).
  3. Choose a color count (full color down to 2 levels).
  4. Check the preview, then download the PNG if you like the result.

Example

Convert a 512×512px character illustration with a 64px output size and 4 color levels, and you'll get a 64×64px retro pixel art image.

Using This in Game Development

Useful for mocking up item icons, building a base for retro-style sprites, or making icons for social media posts. The smaller the output size, the more it looks like a classic retro console game.

Notes

Results get blurrier with a larger output size, or with a lower-resolution source image. Transparent areas in a PNG are preserved, but once colors are quantized down, that detail can't be recovered from the converted image.

FAQ

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. All image processing happens in your browser, and the image you select is never sent to a server.

Can I convert the result back to the original size?

Using a larger output size reduces the pixelation effect, but once color information is reduced, it can't be recovered from the converted image.

Can I use the converted image commercially?

Yes, you're free to use the converted image however you like. Just make sure you have the rights to the original image you upload.
