What is the Fantasy Name Generator?

This tool generates a batch of character, place, guild, or weapon names by category. It's useful whenever you need a lot of names at once — for an RPG, a fantasy story, or prepping a tabletop session.

How to Use

Choose a category (Character Name, Place Name, Guild / Faction Name, or Weapon / Item Name).
Enter how many names to generate, from 1 to 20.
Press "Generate" to see the results as a list.
Copy the result if needed.

Example

Generating 5 character names might give you something like "Araedor" or "Belorwyn." Place names come out like "Ironhollow" or "Stormreach," and guild names like "Order of the Silver Wolf."

Using This in Game Development

Handy when you need a batch of NPC or mob names, a quick placeholder name for a village or dungeon on your map, or a working title for a weapon or item before you finalize it. Many developers generate a batch, then hand-pick and tweak the ones they like best.

Notes

Generated names are random combinations of pre-built word parts, so they may coincidentally match existing works or trademarks. Before using a name commercially, it's worth checking that nothing similar already exists.

FAQ

Can the same name be generated twice?

Names are deduplicated within a single result, but since the pool of word combinations is finite, you may notice repeated word parts more often as you generate larger batches.

Can it generate Japanese-style names?

Right now it only generates Western-fantasy-sounding names. Japanese-style name generation is something we may consider adding later.

Can I use a generated name commercially?

The name itself isn't copyrightable, but it could coincidentally match an existing work or trademark, so it's a good idea to check for similar names before commercial use.
