Generate a Layout
What is the Dungeon Generator?
Generate a random dungeon or level layout with one click. Rectangular rooms are placed randomly and connected with L-shaped corridors, and the resulting map can be exported as a PNG image or JSON data.
How to Use
- Choose a map size (small, medium, or large).
- Choose a room density (sparse, normal, or dense).
- Click "Generate Layout."
- Regenerate as many times as you like, then save the result as PNG or JSON.
Example
Generating with a "Medium (32×20)" map size and "Normal" density produces a layout with about 8 rooms, connected by L-shaped corridors.
Using This in Game Development
Useful for roughing out level design for a roguelike, generating JSON data to feed into your own level editor, or mocking up prototype maps. The green marker shows a suggested start point, and the yellow marker shows a suggested goal point.
Notes
Every generated layout is random — room placement and corridor shapes change each time. The generator tries to avoid overlapping rooms, but a very high density relative to the map size may fall short of the target room count.
FAQ
Can I regenerate the same layout again?
No. Every generation produces a new random layout (seeded generation isn't supported).
What does the JSON data look like?
It's JSON containing the map's width and height, along with a 2D array of 0s (walls) and 1s (floor). You can feed this into your own level editor, or a Unity/Godot tilemap-loading script.
Is the image or data sent to a server?
No. Everything from generating the layout to downloading it happens entirely in your browser.
